Explore

Exploring is a habit, not a trip. Here is what I have written about doing it - far from home and ten feet from the back door.

I have spent most of my working life helping people take big, complicated trips. But the part I actually care about is smaller than that: paying attention on purpose, wherever you happen to be standing.

The philosophy

Indie travel: go your own way, slowly, on your own terms.

Curiosity as practice

The small version. Most of exploring is just looking harder at what is already in front of you.

Going anyway

On fear, paranoia, and the excuses that keep people home.

Travelling well

The practical layer. How to move through a place without wrecking it.

Where I have been

I kept a year-in-cities list for a long stretch. It is a strange and useful way to see a decade.
